We all know that optimizing your pages is very important to search engine optimization (SEO). What few businesses understand is that you need to be adding pages of well optimized, relevant content to your website on a consistent basis. 1 or 2 pages a week is a good start, but the more you can add, the better.
The search engines love seeing websites that are dynamic. By dynamic, we mean that they are constantly changing by adding new content-rich, optimized pages. We have built Eden so that the search engines can easily read all of your content and easily index you pages in their search results. With the “Launch Page” option in the page settings, you can easily update your Eden RSS feed and inform your subscribers and the search engines of new content on the site.
10 easy steps to creating a content marketing strategy/schedule using Eden
You may be familiar with the movie, “The Devil Wears Prada”, where a naive young woman (Anne Hathaway) comes to New York and scores a job as the assistant to one of the city’s biggest fashion magazine editors, the ruthless and cynical Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). Priestly rules with an iron fist and is often rude and cold to those that she surrounds herself with, but she always finds a way to get the job done in good “fashion”. She has built trust over many years by consistently providing her readers with the most relevant, up-to-date declarations of what is hot… and what is not. This trust keeps her readers AND her employees loyal.
Put yourself in the shoes of a fashion magazine editor (no need to change shoes for this simulation). As a magazine editor, especially for a fashion magazine, your job is to create and publish content, measure the response and feedback, and adapt and change your messaging for your next edition. You must make sure that you stay on the cutting edge of each day’s trends and fads to attract new readers and retain loyal ones. How do you do this? The trick is understanding your audience and writing relevant content that interests and inspires them. Why else would one purchase a magazine subscription?
Managing your Eden website is very much like being the editor of your own magazine. You’re constantly trying to stay ahead of the game by providing your audience with something that sets you apart and can only be found at YOUR website, your competitive advantage. As your website provides more value (insight, support, tips and tricks, explanations, guidance, etc) your audience will grow and first time visitors will become customers and old customers will become loyal customers.
Here are the three steps to follow when taking the reigns as your marketing website’s editor-in-chief.
Step 1: Create and publish content-rich, optimized pages
Think about the words that prospective customers use when searching online for your products or services. Create content pages (one for each of these key words) and then launch your new pages to your social networks, search engines, and across the web. As visitors find their way to your website you can engage them in conversation with social commenting features. Your website is your opportunity to show your audience that you’re on top of recent news and trends. Websites that are not constantly changing rarely experience much traffic and media buzz. The truth of the matter is, if you’re not adding at least one new page of content to your website each week, your visitors and customers are getting bored, and your competitors are likely to find a way to scoop them up for themselves.
Step 2: Measure the response and feedback
Eden tracks your content and visitors and finds the best opportunities for your business. Eden also tracks your conversions so you know exactly how well your maga-, I mean website, is doing to engage your audience and move them to action. Eden forms let you collect written feedback directly from any page of your website too.
Step 3: Adapt and change your messaging
Eden shows you which topics are creating the most interest among your visitors so you can continue your most valuable conversations in your next round of articles. Gossip and news spread like wildfire in today’s social-media-crazed world so keeping your ear to-the-ground is more important than ever. Look for new high-value topics that you haven’t written about before and create new content on those topics to see if they’re more effective at bringing in new visitors and customers (conversions). And the process goes round-and-round (back to step 1).
Creating website content that attracts the right audience for your business is no small task. But Eden Platform makes it easy for any business to get started with a content marketing website. A great way to keep your website visitors posted with your recent company happenings is by implementing your Twitter profile widget directly on one of your webpages. We find that the homepage is usually the best page to place it on because of its visibility, but you can also place it on your blog pages or any other page of your Eden website that you deem suitable.
Nine key advantages to adding your Twitter widget to your website:
- Increasing your number of target followers.
- Communicate that you’re current.
- Increase your legitimacy.
- Increase your transparency.
- Easily network with website followers, fans, prospects, or clients.
- Increase the “Twitter Effect“.
- Maintain an active image.
- Once integrated, it requires not maintenance or upkeep.
- Draw more attention to something important.
Here are detailed instructions on how to add your Twitter profile widget to your Eden website.
Preation is excited to announce that our customers no longer have to use WordPress or Blogger to create a blog on their Eden websites! We now have the ability to make any of your page layouts an instant blog by using Facebook Social Commenting or Disqus. With either these features implemented on your Eden site, you can turn any page into a discussion forum.
One of our partners, Magnet Video, is already utilizing this functionality. Check out their new blog. This blog was completed using functionality solely within Eden! Congrats to David Rose and the rest of the Magnet Video team.
You might ask, “why is blogging in Eden better than using WordPress or Blogger?“. I’ll tell you why.
- Your blog is at your primary domain, not a subdomain, so all of your blog posts are actually pages on your site. This means you get all of the optimization benefits of adding new pages and content to your website with every new blog post you write.
- You get to use Eden’s optimization module to optimize your blog posts just as you would your individual pages. No guess work!
- All of your traffic metrics to the blog are registered within your Eden website, making it easier to evaluate and react based on the content marketing summary provided on your dashboard and optimization interfaces.
- You only have a single login to edit and optimize both your website pages and blog pages.
- You can easily include your blog posts into your Eden RSS feed to keep your subscribers updated with your company’s latest news and information.
- You can easily add additional elements to all columns in your layout - In WordPress, every post has to have the same content in the additional columns, and you have to know HTML just to change content in your additional columns on all pages.
- You get all of the new features that are released to Eden as part of your Eden subscription. You do not have to download new versions of the blogging software and worry about installation, configuration, frequent security patches, and hosting costs.

In an earlier blog post, we discussed how to stay informed using RSS feeds. RSS feeds bring automatically updated information straight to your desktop. You can monitor news, blogs, job listings, personals, and classifieds. More and more sites offer feeds, which you can identify by a small button that says either RSS or XML. However, if you click one of these links, you will most likely get a page full of code in your browser. To properly read the feed, you need an RSS reader such as Google Reader.
Every Eden site now has their very own RSS feed. The RSS Feed is technically just a URL that you can use when configuring an RSS News Reader or when submitting your Eden website’s feed to news distribution services. The URL is created in this format: http://www.YOURDOMAINNAME.com/feed/rss/
How Can I Make My RSS Feed Available to My Website’s Visitors?
Since an RSS Feed is just a URL, you can direct your website’s visitors to it by linking text or images to the RSS Feed URL just like you create links on your pages to other website URLs now (using the Manual Link option in Eden). The most common way to do this is to link from a small, square, orange RSS Feed icon like this one. To make sure your pages are added to the your RSS feed, make sure the “Launch Page” checkbox is marked in the page’s settings.
It’s very important to submit your RSS feed to get the word out about what’s happening on your website. Here’s a list of places where you can submit your business’s RSS feeds. After you’ve done that, you will start having your customers, colleagues, and friends subscribe to your feed and stay informed with your company’s current events whenever you create new pages.
