The search engines love fast loading pages, and so do we. Last week we upgraded all Eden websites with a number of performance improvements.
In this release we launched a very smart and powerful behind-the-scenes element-level caching system. As part of these changes we added another new server to the Eden service architecture to hold the new cached data. What this means for our clients is dramatically increased page load speeds. In most cases, the homepages and all site pages of Eden sites will render for visitors in 86% less time. That’s a huge improvement!
Google and other search engines are known to evaluate average page loading time as part of their analysis of website quality and user experience. The logic is that search engine users want to find information quickly, and websites that load slowly may not be the best resource for them.
Our recent speed upgrade will ensure that page loading time factors do not have any negative impact on your website’s ability to rank highly for your most important keywords in the search engines.

If you’ve never received a website form submission that was full of spammy links and fake text, you’re one of the lucky ones. These days most websites are plagued by visits from automated spam bots that submit your web forms with fake information. Although they have their reasons (like promoting sketchy activities while artificially inflating your website conversion counts), we’re putting an end to them with our new visual captcha image feature.
A captcha image is one of those silly looking images with skewed numbers and letters that only a human being can read. Although captcha images have been proven to reduce the number of form submissions you will receive, most of the reduction is the removal of form spam submissions. You get decide whether you think it will be helpful for your forms or not.
The captcha feature in Eden is optional and is turned off by default so that we don’t disturb your forms the way they are right now. But, you can turn captcha spam protection on for any form by editing the form in the Forms tab and clicking the Enable button beside the new Spam Protection switch.
Once you enable spam protection on any form the form will then display on the page with an additional field immediately before the submit button. The new captcha field will prompt your online visitors to “type the characters they see in the picture” into the text box below. Eden will confirm that the characters they have entered are correct and will prompt them to try again (with a new captcha image) if they are incorrect.

In an earlier blog post, we discussed how to stay informed using RSS feeds. RSS feeds bring automatically updated information straight to your desktop. You can monitor news, blogs, job listings, personals, and classifieds. More and more sites offer feeds, which you can identify by a small button that says either RSS or XML. However, if you click one of these links, you will most likely get a page full of code in your browser. To properly read the feed, you need an RSS reader such as Google Reader.
Every Eden site now has their very own RSS feed. The RSS Feed is technically just a URL that you can use when configuring an RSS News Reader or when submitting your Eden website’s feed to news distribution services. The URL is created in this format: http://www.YOURDOMAINNAME.com/feed/rss/
How Can I Make My RSS Feed Available to My Website’s Visitors?
Since an RSS Feed is just a URL, you can direct your website’s visitors to it by linking text or images to the RSS Feed URL just like you create links on your pages to other website URLs now (using the Manual Link option in Eden). The most common way to do this is to link from a small, square, orange RSS Feed icon like this one. To make sure your pages are added to the your RSS feed, make sure the “Launch Page” checkbox is marked in the page’s settings.
It’s very important to submit your RSS feed to get the word out about what’s happening on your website. Here’s a list of places where you can submit your business’s RSS feeds. After you’ve done that, you will start having your customers, colleagues, and friends subscribe to your feed and stay informed with your company’s current events whenever you create new pages.
