I'm amazed at the number of web developers that tell their clients that Flash works, and then I've got wo work with a client who can't understand why his website isn't working to bring in traffic, nor to convert very well.

But when I get them to finally eliminate the Flash, no matter how pretty it may seem, suddenly their website starts working.

I fully believe that Google Analytics is one of the greatest things since sliced bread. I use it to fine tune my client's websites, to make them convert better.

Because I believe that the first thing a website must do is "GET ATTENTION" that if you look at Google Analytics to determine "duration on site" more often than not, the first time I look at this measurement I will find that the bulk of the visitors are gone in less than 10 seconds.
That tells me that the first thing they saw on the page wasn't GETTING ATTENTION and must be fixed.

If they are gone in less than 30 seconds then the next paragraph or two didn't hold them.

I'll keep using this principle until we get the visitor staying for minutes on the site, and THEN visiting the others pages, and also decreasing the bounce rates.

All of the tools are there in Google Analytics to fine tune a landing page and whole website for the highest conversions. I love Google Analytics.
Thanks

There can be many different approaches depending on the product or service you have to offer. Some times pay per click is the best approach, some times SEO and some time good old fashioned guerrilla marketing is best. Thank You :D

Isabella makes a great point here. Small business owners come from a variety of backgrounds which means that they have widely differing levels of experience with technology.

In a recent survey of small businesses we asked them to select their level of technical expertise on the following scale: 1) use the computer to surf the web, 2) use desktop applications like Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, 3) use web applications like Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Documents, 4) perform HTML editing and web design tasks, and 5) create software applications by programming code. Responses were spread evenly with around 20% choosing each category.

This underscores the importance of building easy-to-use interfaces for software applications that will be used by small business users. Companies like Basecamp, Google, MailChimp, and iContact have huge small business customer bases and they really get the needs of the small business owner.

With our Eden Platform product we help small businesses build websites that get more traffic. On average Eden customers (most of whom are small business owners) receive 300% more traffic to their websites than those who build their websites through traditional methods. Eden allows our small business customers to optimize their websites for the search engines on their own WITHOUT THE REQUIREMENT of having prior technical or web marketing expertise. Visit http://www.preation.com/freetrial to sign up for a free 15 day trial.
